Once the overworld song starts playing for the first time, it loops endlessly until you get into a battle, so if you don't break the loop, you won't hear the secret song in the hidden room. The reason you have to get into a battle is to break the looping overworld song. If you do, then you must leave the town and get into a battle. In order to escape that annoyance, let the beginning sequence play itself completely out. Technically, you can do this trick now, but the screen will be flashing red the way it is in the opening cinema. The first item in your inventory will change into the DrWarp when the above code is activated. You'll need at least one item in your inventory.
